Should .media-left be a link?

Is there a reason that we have a link that runs down the whole height of the table display with media object?

Seems like the link should only be around the img not the entire layout cell. I believe the layout table cell should be used for layout instead of navigation. I doubt many users would expect that clicking the white area under an image would click the img above it. Is this the intended use or is this buggy implementation in the documentation?
